In this renovation, the homeowner knew exactly what he wanted: A great living space with a lot of detail.
I’m not kidding, he left no corner out. Now that’s my kind of attention to detail!
I was commissioned to turn this doorway from “BLAH!” to “WOW!”
To do that, I chose to use Intonachino. I kicked it off with tinting the materials to a light orange/tan, using three colours to mix it from scratch: Raw Sienna, Red Oxide and Raw Umber (but the links are not the actual brands of the materials I use to tint my plaster; just great information pages for you to check out).
After, the finish was left to sit and cure for a few days before I returned to apply the all-important penetrating sealant before doing a beautiful raw umber glaze.

I was involved in anthoer aspect of the 1976 Habitat Forum providing housing stays for the hundreds of unofficial visitors that came to participate. The operation ran out of a closed down gas station on 4th avenue (if I remember correctly). I created a little keyword accessed database where we stored the details of the rooms provided by regular Vancouver citizens. We had a half dozen terminals connected to a DEC computer that was made available by BC Tel. It was all fairly low key but was quite successful. I would love to see if anyone has pictures of it.I remember going down to Jericho to have a beer at the longest bar in the lower mainland and marveling the energy and art that was so evident there.

This technique achieved a unique look for the finished product. It is great to see the final shots against the “before” shots. And how great was it to work with a client that knew exactly that they wanted going in? Makes the gap between expectation and reality a lot easier to bridge. Excellent work!

Thanks for the feedback, it’s alawys appreciated. I actually saw most of those shows and would have reviewed them, but this blog wasn’t started until mid-June of this year (after most of those shows had already opened, and/or closed). I will cop to missing Reefer Madness, about which I heard nothing but good things.
